While visiting Downieville River Inn you simply will not run out of things to do. Explore your activity of choice from the list below or contact us for assistance and suggestions on area resources.

The Yuba River is stocked with trout each year by the Department of Fish & Wildlife. Over 20 trout-stocked lakes are within a forty five minute drive.

There are many excellent maintained trails in the area, ranging in difficulty from 1 to 5 boots! Climb to the top of the Sierra Buttes, or take the easy path to Frazier Falls. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail crosses Highway 49 between Downieville and Sierraville. We can provide maps and/or suggest trails for the family or experienced hiker.

Access to a vast number of groomed trails.

All of the Tahoe National Forest trails are open for cross country skiing. In addition, ski-only trails are available just a few miles up Highway 49.

Rent snowshoes in Grass Valley on the way up to Downieville.  Shuttle service can be arranged to area trails.

Riding stables await you at the nearby Lakes Basin area in season which offer hourly rentals.

There are four public courses in or near the town of Graeagle. Two 18 hole courses: the Graeagle Meadows has the Feather River running through it, and the Plumas Pines Golf Resort is in the midst of the Plumas National Forest. There are also two fine 9 hole courses: the Feather River Inn Golf Course and the Feather River Park Resort. Bring your clubs and let us arrange a tee time for you.

From spring into June, take your kayak out on the river. Arrangements can be made for down river pick-ups.

When the river water is high in the early spring, river guides can be arranged for rafting trips. Both beginner and intermediate rafters can enjoy the thrills of the Yuba's North Fork white waters (Sierra City to Downieville rated Class IV-V; Downieville to Buzzard's bar, Class II-V).

Besides the natural splendor of the Downie & Yuba Rivers, we have a heated swimming pool on the premises for the use of our guests from May-October. The sauna is open year round.

We are surrounded with world class mountain bike trails. Two bike shops host daily transportation to trails during spring, summer and fall or be adventurous and ask us for a map.

With lunch and basket insert (extra fee).

Downieville has a rich history of gold seeking and panning.  Tours at local mines are available.
